Best Universities

The latest World University Rankings List was released this week. Ateneo de Manila tops the list for Philippine universities, a first after many years of being a runner up. This year's list also showed the best showing of Philippine schools with four schools in the Top 500 and with Ateneo ranking 245, a far cry from last year's 451.

This is also the first time where Ateneo and UP got in the Top 100 (out of a thousand schools worldwide) in the Arts and Humanities category. Which just means the two schools are among the best when it comes to the said category. Ateneo, UP and La Salle also got in the Top 100 of rankings by Employer Review.

King Eagle

For the first time, I actually waited for some "celebrity" so that I can have my picture taken with them. I joined Bettina and Warren (both Ateneans working in ANC)... as we waited for the sports program Hardball to end so we can have a "photo session" with no less than the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

The Eagles were not complete, but the Finals MVP Nonoy Baclao was there. He also happens to be from Bacolod where I grew up. I looked like a dwarf beside him! :-)

sweet victory

I am very sure many bloggers right now are also writing similar posts as this one. And I can't blame them for it.

It was indeed a sweet victory for the Ateneo Blue Eagles. The Katipunan-based cagers defeated not just the defending champion, but their foremost rival the De La Salle Green Archers. The score: 62-51.

The Archers started the game... but the Eagles ended it. It was the Green team that scored the first 2 shots... but the Blue camp caught up and never looked back.

The entire Newsroom (including the news anchors) were in frenzy. One side was rooting for La Salle, but most were for Ateneo. Everyone can't work well... but it felt okay.

This is the first time I experienced an Ateneo Championship as an Atenean. The last time Ateneo won in 2002, I was still a Lasalista. :-)

Go Ateneo!
One Big Fight!

robbery in Ateneo

It saddened me... when I read the Guidon story on the robbery inside Ateneo. Two freshies plus a sophomore were robbed of laptops and cellphones inside the school... specifically at the Cervini waiting shed. They were hurt and the robber rode inside a getaway vehicle and drove off. In a school as prestigious as Ateneo, this story is very shocking. Although there were many cases before... I just thought the school would have implemented more serious security, especially since students pay hundreds and thousands of pesos per year. What was more shocking is the fact it happened so near the dormitory (and the church).

I just hope Ateneo would work on its security efforts. The students are already bombarded by academic and org activities... and I think worrying on their safety inside campus just adds to the stress all Ateneans face.

socially oriented

Yesterday, the weather was very moody. Uulan, then the sun will shine then ulan nanaman, then sabay na yung ulan and sun. At least, hindi yun yung feeling ko. Medyo stable naman ang emotions ko yesterday at hindi ako moody. Nag babad ako with Nina, Kim and Bunso. Ang tagal ko rin na hindi naka akyat sa B6 area, the last time kasi sa baba lang during the rummage sale. Nag ikot kami sa mga manangs and just chillin' around. And yes, maputik doon. Buti na lang the sun shone again. Anyway, right after the babad experience at K1B6, diretsyo naman ako sa Labor Trials ko. As usual, I tutor a kid (Ronalyn) about pronouns. Nakalimutan ko na nga the technical terms of what the kinds of pronouns are, pero ok naman lahat. Hindi naman nahirapan si Rona. After the ALTP, as usual Matteo ako tambay with doryll, jenny, jr and others. Wala lng, very socially oriented lng day ko kahapon.

Today naman, class from 7:30am-3pm straight!!! Oh well, sanayan lang. Nag lunch lang ako sa bluerep room (one of my orgmate said na di na raw ako dumadaan sa org room). Then after my last class, sa atsca table naman ako. Happy pala ako at dumating na ang pinakahihintay kong allowance!! Ubos na kasi money ko. Yun lang for now. cge.

friday the 13th

Contrary to what the title suggests, I am not going to write the horror stories of my life. Instead, it will be about my happennings this week which includes yesterday Friday the 13th. I woke up late yesterday- extremely late - at around 1pm. At 5pm, we at k1b6 had our prayer. It was, so far, the most unattended prayer. Konti lang kami kahapon. In fact, we started with just 3 people- nash, jd, jekki. We already planned to start the prayer and planned already the steps and procedure even if it was just the 3 of us. Buti na lang when we were about to say the sign of the cross, nina and archie arrived with the ube candy. Then humabol na sina nez,ros and barwin at pati na rin si jeff. Ok yung ed article it was about working for God and doing God's work. May na learn naman ako especially about discernment.

Speaking of discernment, so far naka tatlong IC na ako. Ang weird lang ng mga time slots ko sa Ic at ngayon ko lang na realize. Wednesday- IC with Marie at ISO Compound 6pm-7:30pm (gabi na). Thursday- IC with Ros at Mcdo 9pm-11:30pm (mas gabi pa).

World Movement Against Exploitation of Women. We interacted with the ladies there and also with their head- Sister Sol- known daw as the Sister of the Prostitutes. Can't wait to tutor them!

Yun lang for now, tinatamad na ako... pero masaya.

day today and yesterday

what a day! I felt heavy since this morning, naiisip ko lang parang ang daming kailangan gawin within the next weeks. Na stress na yata ako... It started pa na I woke up late kanina and my first class was philo (which is a class I can't cut anymore kasi 2 more cuts na lang ako), so I ran to my class and I'm hoping I was just marked late. That was my 7.30 am class, my next class was at 9am at Bell, I found out na we will be having our exam on Thursday na pala!! And to think na si H lang kilala ko sa class na iyon (para kasi akong xtra lang doon). Then my next class at 10:30 was hi165, ito talaga yung depressing! I got my long exam results na and it is really a major exam worth 20% of the total grade and to my dismay, shock and disappointment, I got an F, yes a failure!!!. Ang nakakainis lang I had no wrong information on my essay, pero my teacher was just looking for something I didn't write. Puro nga "not needed" yung comments niya per paragraph (one question essay kasi yung test). Oh well, kailangan maka A na ako sa lahat!!!!Then my last class was at 1:30, my exam was also returned, Well, I got a good grade naman pero compared to my seatmates, mababa pa rin siya. Life is really a wheel, you just don't get what you wanted always. You just have to seat back and enjoy the ride of life.

what a day today, yesterday, my first class for the year 2006 was wala lang. I was scheduled to have 3 mtgs from 3 different orgs, I wanted to attend all, but I was just able to attend one. Bluerep mtg was at 1:30 and I had class, AtSca prayer and mtg was at 4:30 and Acomm mtg was also at 4:30. I attended the Acomm mtg because it is the org I wasn't active in the past months. After the mtg, I was supposed to habol the atsca mtg, but of all people I texted pa the wrong person. I ask Ger to text me if the prayer is over and habol lang ako for the mtg, but apparently, Ger is taking an exam till 9pm... and there I was in Ateneo till 7:30 waiting for the text, all the while akala ko mahaba lang yung prayer. Oh well, bawi na lang next time.

*Oh God, I need you most today! Thank you.

2 more days

It's the 2nd day of class for the year 2006, but I'm still here in Bacolod! And I'll be arriving in Manila on Saturday, 2 days from now. 3 days of not going to school... well, technically I'll just be absent for one day since I don't have class every Wednesdays and Fridays. It doesn't hurt me much to extend my vacation, academically speaking. I just hope my Thursday classes won't be the important lectures.

Anyway, speaking of school. Actually, I am not that sad to go back to Manila (though I am also not ecstatic to leave Bacolod). Perhaps I have a reason to go back... (mystery) [ano ba jekki?]

Anyway, again, I said I'll have a part 2 of my blog entitled "after 20", pero tinamad na ako... so wala na... or bahala na if feel ko pa...

So, heto muna... I don't like classes, but I want to meet my friends.

after I turned 20

So many things happened during the last few weeks. So many new relationships improved and some bloomed. Since the beginning of the 2nd sem, so many events and memories just happened..

I just passed through the stage of the 'teen'... I am no longer 19, but I'm 20 already. Ang tanda na talaga, one year na lang debut ko na! I turned 20 with my family and friends in Bacolod (The first time since I studied in Manila) last Nov. 4, 2005... after that my life was quite different...

I came back to Manila for the 2nd sem... ang daming nangyari...
From AtSCA Week to the Carolings... from my "SBC Club" (with nescy, justin, jo, gerald) to my unofficial "green group" (with marie, jo, justin and special mention na rin si bunso, gino & di-ang) and to my "ym group" (gawa gawa ko lang yung name) na sina ger, jenny, che and of course, nina. Wow, ang dami ngang relationships na nag improved at as mentioned nag bloom. Regarding relationships, nagkaroon din ng time last month yata
na "get to know better" sina jaypee, marie, jo, jr, doryll and nescy sa may Mocha Blends kung saan umuwi na kami 4- 4:30am. Buhay talaga...

Since wala ako blog dati so ngayon ko na sasabihin mga events that happened since the 2nd sem started.
I remember during the AtSca Night- it was my FIRST TIME to sing in public (thoigh kasama ko naman si pj). Remembering that night brings so many memeories. I am really happy I was part of that core group. Grabe, Naging close kami nila jo because of that. I also remember na we never slept the night before and nag area pa ako the next day...

So many memories... siguro next time naman yung iba... I'm tired na...

What to expect next blog: caroling, the christmas parties, PAL, mktg, the flight back, etc.
