curse of the name

Jekki. Yep, that's my name. Well, that's what a lot of people call me anyway. I am not so sure of its origin. A lot of people would ask me "bakit jekki?" And I would say "ewan ko". But I think it was a name my dad's high school friends would call him back in those days. My dad liked it and when I arrived on this planet, the name was bestowed upon me. As we all know, names are names, whether we like it or not, it will be ours forever.

Then I have another name. JB. Yep, for those who calls me Jekki, JB is a weird alternative. But in fact, JB was my first name. Because it is the name my parents call me. Actually, JB is a name all of my "blood-reatives" would call me. You ask them who Jekki is, they wouldn't know.

Both JB and Jekki are my names. But people who calls me those names is what differentiate it from the other. JB is a name for my family, while Jekki is what my school friends call me. So basically, half of the people I know calls me one name, while the other half calls me the other name. It's weird, but I am very used to it. I remember whenever I received text messages from someone not stored in my phone book, if the text says example: "Jekki, wer ka?"- then I would know that it is someone from school- whether college friend or HS friend. But if someone texts me: "JB, musta?"- then it means it is a relative who is texting me. This happened a lot, especially during my birthday, when everyone was greeting me the entire day.

And of course, every name has a curse (well at least in my case). Jekki isn't exactly a common name. In fact, it is somewhat rare and that one might never meet a jekki in his/her lifetime (lucky you). It is so unique that people doesn't understand it easily. Whether someone ask me what my name is. I tell them Jekki and then they say "huh? jacky?" or something like that. When I buy coffee sa Starbucks or when I enter our building, the guard would always ask me my name and will eventually ask "ano po?". Nakakainis lang minsan. If I have a simple name as maybe Jack or Carlo- it would have been easier communicating with guards and starbucks staff. That also led me to using JB whenever I buy coffee, para at least easier (although they still damaged my name by writing JV or Jamie).

Ok, so this topic will not really change the world or anything... it's just something personal, i guess. And if you happen to be still reading this, then thanks for your time. You might want to share your "name story" on your blog too. hehehe
