Pesos

This week I am such a big spender. Yesterday, I suddenly bought something really expensive. Ok I would like to use the word "invested". I invested on something and I paid in cash. And it's not even business-related. It wasn't even a need. It was maybe half-want, half-need. The results of that 'investment' are intangible. That is why, my mind was swirling, thinking if I did the right thing. I hope I did. That was the biggest cash I ever pulled out of my wallet in just one day.

Anyway, on another note. I was explainee again yesterday too. If you can see, I was just wearing the jacket of my officemate, cause I didn't know I was to appear on that episode. I was only told to co-host... around 2 hours before the show starts. The topic was about Eva Estrada Kalaw. You don't know her?

Mega Expansion

Over the weekend, I went to SM Megamall to get my contact lens. I was happily surprised to see the big mall has created a chapel at their new wing. When I was living in Mandaluyong, I usually hear mass at SM because they have good homilists. They usually have masses in the hallway. It was kinda crowded, not to mention very distracting cause there were a lot of people passing by.

Now, I saw they have alloted a huge space in their new wing just for the Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord. It felt like a real church inside. And people can actually concentrate on the Eucharist rather than the stores and people around. That made me happy.

It was also a good business idea, cause aside from the chapel, there are a lot of stores that will soon be open in the new wing. You'd think Megamall is so crowded that there is no space anymore, but no they still added 4-5 floors of mall spaces. More reasons to go to Megamall (it's the nearest major mall to my residence).

my latest appearance

Over the weekend, friends asked me what time I appear on TV. Well, I only do so rarely, and I am sure they can't watch me because of the bad scheduling. And so I was surprised when I found out... there are videos of The Explainer on Youtube!

For my latest episode: Click here.

The topic is about the US Electoral College. A very timely topic especially as the US Election nears. You can watch all parts and learn... or maybe just view me (hahaha). I'm at the start of the second minute and a few seconds in some parts of the episode. Enjoy! (hehehe)

Whatta Nite

I still have no sleep and it's already 12 noon!!!
I had dinner with college friends at Powerplant Mall, drinks at Grilla and more drinks at Begula in Katipunan. It was a needed meeting (I guess for most of us). It was the first time I saw them after many months. It was a fun night.

What was different is actually when we hanged out at Bianca's flat. They were having a contentious debate on various issues particularly on religion and its relevance. Imagine, them debating during the wee hours of the morning all about what it means to be believers (or something like that). It was mind-boggling, but also made us all think. Though there were some things that saddened me. Actually, it still does now. I just can't write it here yet.

But anyway, it was a fun night even if we finished around 8am already!!! And as I said it was a much needed meeting for us all. And now I am at work... still without sleep. But no regrets.

Lord, hear our prayers.

*thanks Archie, Judith for the treat

Best Universities

The latest World University Rankings List was released this week. Ateneo de Manila tops the list for Philippine universities, a first after many years of being a runner up. This year's list also showed the best showing of Philippine schools with four schools in the Top 500 and with Ateneo ranking 245, a far cry from last year's 451.

This is also the first time where Ateneo and UP got in the Top 100 (out of a thousand schools worldwide) in the Arts and Humanities category. Which just means the two schools are among the best when it comes to the said category. Ateneo, UP and La Salle also got in the Top 100 of rankings by Employer Review.

pinoy milk

Today is the best time to buy Philippine made products. Many people always prefer foreign or imported ones than those made locally. For many, there is some sense of prestige when one eats imported and when one wears imported. It is a sad reality.

And now with the Melamine Scare affecting the world, milk advertisements are now showing huge signs of "Made in the Philippines". That's a welcome change, considering that most Filipinos have colonial mentality.

Now people would be buying locally produced goods instead of foreign ones. Melamine has already affected 90,000 babies in China and the toxic chemical was found in several products including those popular brands of chocolates, milk and other products. Yesterday, Health Secretary Francisco Duque declared 21 products melamine-free, but has found one product Jolly Cow Slender Milk to be tainted... in addition to the Yili Milk and Mengniu Milk that were also found to be contaminated. In other countries, Cadbury Chocolates, Ritz Cheese Crackers and many other products were also found to have small amounts of the said chemical.

If there is one good thing that could come out of the scandal is, aside from thorough quality checks for all companies, is the fact that people now would buy Philippine brands-- not just milk but other products as well... hopefully.

Not that foreign brands are bad, it's just that local brands are not that bad.
