week at the office

This week was quite busy. There were 3 days of Senate Hearings, which I am part of the transcribing team. The first hearing was on the Hello, Garci scandal and the other 2 hearings were about the NBN-ZTE controversy. I never really like transcribing, but then I guess I have developed ways on how to improve it and enjoy it. Listening to these senate hearings actually is a learning experience. I got to learn a lot about technical stuff, legal stuff and political things. Also, I was ammused/annoyed by the many questions of our dear senators. Also this week, I was in charge of what we call the crawls. It is the "crawling words" you see on TV at the bottom part- you can see this in all news channels incuding CNN, BBC and other news programs. I checked the grammar and the content. I also checked every name that appears on TV. Example if the name of a senator or any person for that matter is spelled correctly and even the position of that person. It's actually a fun thing to do. And for some programs, I was behind the camera literally.

Of course, not all week was work.

During the last minute of the Ateneo-La Salle game last Thursday, the entire news room stopped their work and focused on the many television screens in the office. Many cheered for Ateneo (most people their at ANC are Ateneans and UP graduates). When Ateneo won, you can really hear the shouts of the people and the see some jumping and grinning. And to think that the television was just inches away from the news anchors table (pia hontiveros was shouting Go Ateneo! seconds before she goes on air). It was a fun moment. A short break from all the serious stuff we listen to day in day out.

So far, so good.
And yup, i received my very first pay too!!! (sorry ubos na)

excited to move up

I'm barely in my 3rd week as an employee at ANC, but I do have my share of ranting already. Generally, I'm happy with where I am. But there is something in me na I want to be promoted right away na. Of course, there are so many things that I must learn pa, pero I'm excited by the thought of moving up the ladder. But I guess that would take me at least 6 months to a year to go up. My co-new hire and I would just wish that someday, we will be on top. I guess everyone really wants to be on top.\

Sometimes kasi I get tired of what I am currently doing. I guess madali lang ako mag sawa, but sometimes din I tend to think na ganyan talaga. Iniisip ko na lang na if ever I get to the top someday, I will be very proud kasi I started from the bottom talaga and made my way to the top as a hardworking and passionate person... hehehe.

Anyway, I was so happy that the COO of ANC invited us new-hires for a lunch. We talked about our job, what we want and she just wanted to know us personally. She is so cool, you'd never think she is a top executive of a big media channel. She even wants us to do it once a month. All of us new-hires (tatlo lang kami) felt very important kasi even if we were at the very bottom, a top management person still wants to talk to us intimately.

I wish I would stay and be successful in whatever I do.

new look

Today September 15, 2007 marks the change in my blog... hehehe. Wala lang, i just felt like changing the look. Na bored na rin kasi ako sa dating look (which was the design of this blog for almost 2 years na). Although if you look closer, same lang naman ang template, color lang nagbago... hehe. Well yun lang for now. Will update this blog regularly na!

first 4 days

I am generally happy with my work. My first 4 days were more on "learning days" kasi there are so many things I really need to learn. During the past days, I tried to know the different offices and people of our department. Most of the time my task was to bring the news articles to the editing and control room. But I also transcribed interviews that were shown in Prime News. I also became the floor director assistant for the shows Business Nightly and The World Tonight. And I also wrote one story for the 9pm Weekend Advisory last Saturday (which I didn't see na kasi I was on my way home).

Actually, there were many times na wala akong ginagawa. And I am sure this week will be very hectic, kasi it's the 9-11 Anniversary and also the Verdict of Estrada, so medyo history-in-the-making ang news this week.

The usual people na nakikita ko lang sa TV before like mga reporters and news anchors, are now my office mates.. hahaha. Kasi lagi ko silang nakikita sa news room. They are just meters away from where I usually sit. Pero after a few days, parang hindi na ako na susurprise if makita ko sila... hehe.

So far, ok pa naman ang work ko. Thank you Lord.

And just today, we watched the Ateneo-LaSalle game!!! My very first live game as an alumnus! It is also one of the most exciting game na napanood ko, kasi few seconds na lang, lamang pa ang LaSalle by one point, so medyo I was thinking na baka talo na. But Ateneo, being a miracle worker lagi, naka 3-points shoot pa!!!! Galing talaga ni Escueta and Tiu!!! And to think Archie and I went to Araneta mga 1:30pm na without tickets, assuming na meron pang available... pero wala na! Pero for some reason naka pasok pa kami sa Upper B (front row seat pa ng upper B). Galing talaga!!

Work na ulit bukas... :-)

the future begins now

As I was browsing the multiply of different people, I came across this picture and it gave me weird feelings- happy, surprise, a sense of hope and ambition- basta...

This picture was taken during one of our prayer sessions in k1b6 when i was a 3rd year. It was taken at the field beside the Gesu. We were asked to draw how we see ourselves years from now or what we want to be ( I don't know the exact question).

And i drew a television and a man doing a news report. True enough I really wanted to be a broadcast journalist. I totally forgot about this pic. It gave me weird feelings when i saw it recently because in a few hours from now I will start working at the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Future begins now, huh?

*special mention to Chachu (also in the pic), the French chik who always speaks English during our prayer sessions... hahaha (so pati kami napapa english din)

labor day finally

i just received a confirmation from ANC... I will start tomorrow na!!!! I am so happy right now! At first the HR person asked me about the results of my medical exam, medyo natakot ako baka may sakit ako or something.. hehe wala naman pala. Although very busy talaga. My sked:
Mon-Fri 12nn-12mn
Sat 11am-8pm

Kailangan ko talaga mag vitamins. Hindi na rin talaga ako makasama sa mga Friday nights (unless if it starts at 12mn.. hehe). Saturday night lang talaga gimik night ko. So sabado nights na to!

Happy rin ako kasi i really thought the pay is minimal, ok na rin pala (probably because of the super daming workhours)... Although it's still not big, pero i can live with it.

Tomorrow wil be the start of something new and something great.
World, be ready for my arrival.
hehehe
